become is a verb that translated to Spanish is hacerse o convertirse, so, always that you see become before the an adjective, you have to translate it in this way: To become proficient = Hacerse competente. To become more clever= Hacerse más listo. For example: You must become proficient in your job, otherwise, the boss will fire you .Translating: "Tienes que hacerte competente en el trabajo, sino, el jefe te despedirá"
