Khuyên = give an advice to someone, tell them what they should do. Ex: - You should go to bed early / - You shouldn't drink and drive. Chỉ bảo = same meaning but it's more like you TEACH or GUIDE them. Ex: like when your little brother do something totally wrong, you tell him or show him how to make it right. PS: I'm learning English and I'm very bad in explaining things haha anyway hope you get it

"chỉ"="point", "lead"; "bảo" = "tell". "chỉ bảo" usually be used as "teach", "guide".

I think "khuyên" can be used for everyone. Ex: Tôi khuyên cô ấy đi ngủ sớm. Chị ấy khuyên tôi tập thể dục hằng ngày. Tôi khuyên mẹ tôi đừng mua cái túi màu xanh. And "chỉ bảo" can be used when older people said to younger people ( sister with younger brother/sister, parents with son/daughter, grandparents with grandson,....) Ba tôi chỉ bảo tôi về mọi việc trong cuộc sống. Ông bà chỉ bảo cháu những điều hay lẽ phải. Chị chỉ bảo em trai những gì em chưa biết.
