In Ireland, people would use the following expressions instead of 'How are you?' as it's a bit too formal for everyday talk on the street. Well? What's the craic? What's happening? Any craic? What's the story ? How are things?

If you know anyone from Texas or cowboy-style people then they would LOOOVE to hear you say "Howdy?" which is the same as 'how do you do?' Now that's a 'different' way of saying it...isn't it?! ^_^

How's it going with you? What's up with you lately? What's new with you?

Aside from "How are you", you can also say "What's up?" or "How's it going?"
