It would be perfectly acceptable to leave out 'out. To try is to pick out, choose, select; To try out is to test the advantages, possibilities, or qualities of a material or immaterial thing. Using 'out' suggests she was only going to test using the new lingo. Also, the word brings the stress of the sentence onto the phrase 'try out'.
