Please explain context. Sometimes, "getting onto" someone means telling them they are wrong, or scolding them.

"Getting on" someone about something usually means someone's bothering someone else about something. It probably came from the expression of "getting on one's nerves". Examples: The kids' behavior is getting on my nerves today! She's getting on my nerves about her ex-boyfriend again.
