Wht is the meaning of "to coal" in the sentence? I've found out that can mean "to take in coal", but I don't know this meaning either. Eg: The steamer coaled at Southampton. Thank you in advance!

Coal can be used as a verb without an object and means " to take in coal for fuel. " So here, the meaning is that the Steamer (which uses coal as a fuel) stopped at Southampton and got a refill of coal :)
