what does this sentence mean? consumers sometimes find that uses for a master product circumvent the need to purchase consumables.

Your question is a little unclear in its wording. But, what I am able to understand is that it means "if a main product is made it may prevent other products from being made"

Circumvent means to bypass something, or to go around or avoid. I think the original may be a poor translation. It would be easier to understand if it were written as, "...consumers sometimes find that using a superior product avoids the need to purchase disposable (cheap and inferior) products."
