does "out of touch" mean "they have very little information, too ?" During the first critical hour in the United States the ratio between the public and its true informants was roughly 38,000,000:1. The Cronkites and Huntleys were as out of touch as their demoralized listeners; the best they could do was pass along details from Smith, at Parkland's cashier's desk, and Jack Bell, in admissions.

To keep in touch is to have regular contact with someone. 'Out of touch' is the opposite, implying that the Cronkites, Huntleys and their listeners and had had no longer understood what was going on.

out of touch with = having no contact with On its own, it refers to being out of touch with reality, or out of touch with what is going on around you. Here it seems that people just didn't really know what was going on. They were just passign on information.
