Does the two sentences mean the same thing? I earn more than I might (do) if I stayed at home.=I earn more than if I stayed at home. Or perhaps the latter sentence is actually wrong.

They essentially do mean the same thing. The second sentence would make more sense if it was written as, "I earn more than if I had stayed at home" or "I earn more than I would if I stayed home."
