is the following sentence right?
The past seems so much more vivid, more substantial, than the present.
My confusion falls on "so much more vivid", can we use so here?

'So', in this sentence, is acting as an emphasis word. The sentence would mean the same thing without it, but by adding 'so', you know that it is really, really vivid.
"How much more vivid is it?"
"It is SO much more vivid."
