Question Past Simple vs Present Perfect Let's imagine that whe had few people over. Host said something and everobody left. His wife says: What did you say? What have you said? It seems like Past Simple is better, but Present perfect reffers to past events that have connection with "now". Bit confusing.

"What did you say?" is better. The action is completed and the people have left.
