What is the difference between on the coast and off the coast? What is the difference between on the coast and off the coast? please!!

The coast is the shoreline, where the water and land meet. "Off the coast" means out in the water.

"on the coast" is the land next to or relatively near an ocean or a sea. I think that whereas the "shoreline" is very narrow (after all, the place where the land meets the sea is a "line"), a coast can be much wider, and in normal speech, can include land distant from the sea by a considerable distance. ("He lives on the west coast" could include someone living many kilometers from the water.) "off the coast" means out in the water, but close enough to the coast that it is convenient to relate its location by referring to the coast.
