I believe it can make a fantastic supplement to whatever language I'm learning. It also makes it easier to find native speakers to practice the languages with especially using a powerful tool like Skype to communicate. As someone who has taken many "academic" languages courses, I can tell you that they slowed the learning process down because many of the students were uninterested and credit-driven.
