cruising down = travelling along (probably downhill, or southward, or some other sense of in which direction) a stretch of X street = a section of X street, part of X street a stretch in prison = some time in prison . The main shopping area in town is a stretch of WangFuJing street, from W. Chang'an Avenue to Dongsi W. Street
