Learn how both of them work. If you choose one instead of the other because you think it's "better", "more important" or "more common", then you are guaranteed to make mistakes.

It depends on the sentence that you are using it in.
for example:
I will do better in the future. (more meaningful)
or
I'm going to do better in the future. (more of a statement)
