Is there some preposition lacked in the sentence below? The editor cannot be influenced by what he thinks a given word ought to mean. I can understand the first half of the sentence "The editor cannot be influenced by what he thinks". But I can't understand why the writer added a sentence directly after "thinks" without preposition.

It's correct... there's no preposition lacking. What do you think this word means? The editor thinks [word] ought to mean [definition]. That's what he thinks [word] ought to mean.
