What's the meaning of 'tough going'? Example: I decided to try tennis when I came to college, and I'm finding it pretty tough going. I'm simply not fit enough. What's the meaning of 'tough going'?

Tough going in this sense means that the person is having a difficult time trying to play tennis, because they are not fit (not physically strong or trained.) Tough going is an informal idiom usually used for situations indicating that progress will be difficult to make.
