Need your help! Adam Smith,the father of economics described a world in which the economy ran itself. I don not understand the phrase "ran itself".What does it mean?Can you explain please

"to run (something) means to be in charge of something; to manage something; to make the decisions regarding something. Example: He runs the enterprise. (Он ведает предприятием.) So Adam Smith wanted to the economy to "run itself"; that is, without outside control from the government. Market forces alone would determine the course of the economy.
