Could anyone explain this in simpler language? On the other hand, if the evasive maneuver is noticed, it can be particularly costly. Those who evade questions while pretending to answer them risk being seen as devious and manipulative, and this is over and above all of the negative attributions that stem from having evaded the question in the first place.Furthermore, such inferences cannot be forestalled via forms of “damage control,” because the covert nature of the practice precludes any explicit remedial measures.Interviewees can, however, reduce the likelihood that the resistance will be noticed by taking steps to render it less conspicuous.

Trying to avoid answering a question can adversely affect one's credibility permanently . Once it has become apparent that the avoidance is deliberate, it is difficult to recover one's credibility after it is lost. Consequently, it is best if interviewees make it less obvious that they are avoiding answering questions.
