the little archer's window ?? and upon whose brick ledge his mother's shoe had caught as she leaped from the little archer's window to meet her death in the sun-warmed moat below, her final poem fluttering behind her on a sheet of fine paper. I would like to know what does "the little archer's window" mean. Thanks in advance for your help.

The small/thin 'windows' or slits in the walls of old castles which allowed archers to fire out on anyone attacking the castle. Usually I would think they would be too small (small enough that archers can fire out but attackers can't fire in) for a person to climb out of but maybe some are larger.
