For a specific question follow Sam's suggestions, they all sound great. If you are looking to ask more general questions: "So what do you like to do?" "What do you do in your spare time?" "What kind of outside activities do you like to do?" "Do you have any hobbies?" "What are your interests?" All of these questions (both my suggestions and Sam's) should spark an interesting conversation :) I hope this helps!!

There are many questions you can ask. If you are interested in their film and music preferences, good simple questions would be: "What type of music do you like?" "what is your favorite type of music?" "What type of movies do you like?" "What is your favorite movie?" If you are interested in what they do in their free time, you can ask "What are your hobbies?"
