Hi. Can you explain why it's imperfect for 2 verbs here but preterite for the other?

Durante todo el trayecto estaba preocupado, pero me calmé cuando estábamos aterrizando.

I'm by no means a beginner but I still struggle sometimes with the eternal imperfect v preterite dilemma.

Answer

the action was still on-going . Had the action been completed the imperfect would not be used.The words durante and cuando are a good sign to use the imperfect as the action is on going  ...during and when  indicate an action not completed.  And he was calm ..completed. Yeah it is an animal to get it right .
