I've found Schaum's Russian Grammar to be quite accessible. Barron's 501 Russian Verbs is a good reference. To get up and running with some basic Vocabulary Usborne's First Thousand Word In Russian is not bad, especially as there is a website with all the pronunciations. As for a general course, I've not really used textbooks, but rather the RT Learn Russian course which is quite popular: http://learnrussian.rt.com I hope that helps! :-)
