They're pretty much the same in English too, but perhaps tends to be more commonly used in more formal situations in my experience (speeches, papers, etc.). I can't think of any situations where one would work and the other wouldn't so you can pretty much use whichever one you feel like using at the time.

I use them interchangeably. I think "perhaps" may be a little nicer, perhaps?
