Hi Sylvia, There is no difference, they are the same thing. I think some people refer to roasted chickpeas as being garbanzo. Hope this helps.

As mentioned, there is no difference between the two now, however garbanzo has come from the Spanish world, and chickpea is an English corruption of a French word. Most people in the British English world will only know the word chickpea, whereas people from the US will know both. I live in Spain and all of my friends eat garbanzo soup; it's incredibly tasty.

They are the same. Where I live in the U.S., packages in supermarkets always have both words on the package.
