Even though I've found examples of "tap into my interests", it's a pretty poor use of the phrase. In this case, the writer means "access". Ben's right in saying that the phrase should have "resources". Imagine a barrel of something (water? wine? oil?) and to get whatever's in that barrel, you need to put a tap in that barrel. That's the image you need.

bad English. "to tap into some resources" is the standard expression.
