What is the difference ..? What is the difference between hope, wish and expect?

Hope is used for a desired outcome(I hope you can come to the party. I had hoped that you could have come). Wish is used in more hypothetical or imagined situations but are usually not going to happen or have a very low chance of happening(I wish that I had a dog or I wish you were here(both of which are not true). Expect is used in situations with a higher degree of certainty, at least in the speaker's head(he told me that he would come, so I expect him to come or my friend, who supports Barcelona, expects them to win the game)
