I don't think something needs in this sentence because 先月一週間会社を休みました is perfect, but you can also say 
- 先月一週間も会社を休みました←as long as one week
- 先月一週間ほど会社を休みました←about a week

Umm... a blanket  keeps you warm while you sleep. I think you meant "blank" (an empty space).
