What do native speakers say? When you are talking to somebody and suddenly you've remembered some story (occasion?) about your own experience of what you are talking about. In Russian we would start: I had such an occasion..........(for example, you've experienced the same problem) Once (the similar case or the same thing?) happened to me.

'That happened to me once..' Or slightly more formally, as Susan612 says 'That reminds me of the time that ..'

Very modern/colloquial, so not as formal: "Been there, done that."
