When do I use hiragana and katakana is sentences? Is there a certain way to put them together? I use hiragana mostly because I'm still trying to memorize it, but is it wrong if I only use that and not katakana? When should I use both at the same time?

They each have their own purpose. Hiragana is generally used for Japanese words when they're not written in kanji, and for conjugations and particles, too. Katakana is usually used for loanwords. I suggest studying the background a bit more so you understand the difference between all 3.
