How would you interpret the word “Elementary” here? Mrs. Brown left early to go to the polls. She says the Elementary down the block would be my voting place, if I could be troubled to use it. I have promised her I’ll get my voting card before the next go-round. How would you interpret the word “Elementary” in the context? I guess it refers to some elementary school, right? PS: They were living in Asheville. Thanks! And this excerpt is taken from The Lacuna by Kingsolver.

Your right, it is referring to elementary school. Polling places are usually schools or churches by the way.
