mag drops ?? Port outer, port inner, followed by starboard inner, starboard outer. Once all the checks were done – the mag drops and oil pressures and so on – Fraser asked control for permission to taxi. He glanced at Teddy as if he needed his approval more than he needed the control tower’s and Teddy gave him a thumbs up. I would like to know what does " mag drops" mean ? does "mag" refer to "magnetic" ??Thanks.

It is aviation jargon, so is not very well known. A 'mag' here is short for magneto, which generates electricity for the spark plugs on an airplane engine. A check for them involves switching between two magnetos to check that the engine runs correctly on either magneto. If the engine speed drops too much, there may be a problem. Does a Hang Glider pilot count as as aviation expert? ;)

The only standard usage of "mag" is as an abbreviation for "magazine" which is probably not right here. This is probably a technical abbreviation for a particular fluid or something else which an aeroplane needs to function well. It could be magnesium (or a compound) but that's just a guess. We need an aviation expert to help us.
