When speaking our own language, English native speakers' brains work in exactly the same way as yours does when you are speaking Chinese, as Mexican's does when speaking Spanish, or as an Arab's does when speaking Arabic. Human infants are born hard-wired with a kind of 'language operating system' waiting to be activated. In most cases, it's activated by exposure to the phonological, lexical and structural patterns of our mother tongue.
