Both are correct. The meanings are slightly different. どこ: Where -> Specific どの辺: Covers some area. Whereabouts or Around where For example, the following series of conversation makes sense. A: どこに置きましたか? B: 分かりません。 A: それでは、どの辺に置いたのか分かりますか? B: この辺だと思います (It should be AROUND here)。c.f. ここ: here, この辺り: around here Of course, you can omit the first B and the second A parts.
