American English Pronunciation (soft T) Is there any difference in pronunciation between these two words 'mother' and matter?

Yes, there is a difference. The "tt" in matter is pronounced like the "t" in gato. The "th" sound is a unique sound. It is the sound a Spaniard might make when saying gracias. They pronounce the "c" in gracias not like an "s" but like a "th".

Yes, mother has the th sound of "there" or "the" without air aspirated as in thought or with. Matter is mat ter and has no th sound. When we say matter or double t sounds quickly it sounds like a soft d sound as in Eddy.
