Does "We are a country of people from all around the world." sound natural? I heard an American say this in a TV show. It was even shown on the screen subtitled. Do you think this is natural and correct sentence? Because it strikes me that it should be "This is a country..." not "We are a country..." What do you make of it?

It's OK. The word 'country' can be used mean 'nation', so it's fine to say 'We are a country..'
