Is it correct to say 'It is not easy to distinguish(or differenciate) Europeans by appearance' Is it correct to say 'It is not easy to distinguish(or differenciate) Europeans by appearance' As I am from Asia, I have a difficulty with distinguishing or differenciating where a person is from in Europe. Is that correct to say that way? Thanks a lot for your help. Hyunwook

It's a good sentence. "differentiate".

I would say both are acceptable. "I can't differentiate Europeans by appearance" "I can't distinguish Europeans by appearance" Maybe differentiate is a slightly more commonly used but both are correct and have next to equal meaning.
