to be (a) waste of time/(a) wasting of time
Are these phrases completely equivalent? According to Google Books, all four of them are possible, though I have always thought 'a waste of time' is the only correct.
I don't think I have ever seen "wasting of time".... it is always "a waste of time".
However, you can be "wasting time" doing something that is a "waste of time"
