Scant/Excessive 1- Are 'scant' and 'excessive' opposites? 2- Are they suitable for tha following phrase? 3- If you you can, please suggest any better opposites. Scant is rarely used. I think scarce sounds better in this sentence. I would use but, rather than and, to note than contrast. One hundred friends are scarce, but one enemy is excessive.

Scant and excessive are opposites. I would choose to say it a little differently. A hundred friends may be scant ( or scarce ) but just one enemy is excessive.
