The subject There is much more to me than meets the eye. Can I interpret that like this? What's the subject of "meets" in this sentence, there is right? There is much more to be than there meets the eye

The phrase is "more... than meets the eye." The subject of "meets" would be an invisible "what". It's not possible to use "there".
