Is it weird to say "Cheer you on tonight"? When I was travling, I met a couple from Australia. We played volleyball, swam and chatted together. When slit up, they gave me their email address and we exchanged email for a while. One day, they said about their volleyball match in the evening, so I sent an email with sentence " I hope I can watch your match and cheer you on tonight". Is it weird to say that to a woman, because after that I didn't received any email from them, and at this point, I'm too afraid to ask them. :D

I don't see anything wrong or offensive with telling a man or woman that you'd like to watch their game and cheer them on. Maybe they've just been busy :)

Your usage is perfect and there is no impropriety at all in what you said. Well done!
