In the United States, it varies by region. One very common traditional food is "meatloaf." It is made of ground beef (like hamburger) mixed with egg, breadcrumbs, onion, and milk, formed into a loaf shape, and baked. Although it sounds like a way of stretching or extending ground beef, usually people just add enough bread to give it a nice flavor all its own. It's considered a kind of "comfort food." It is cut into slices and served. Often people put ketchup on it. You can order it in restaurants, but you usually don't, because every family has their own special recipe and you want it to taste "the way your mother made it."

Perhaps, the most popular Vietnamese dish is "rice paper roll". It's a light and cold dish made of rice paper wrapping vermicelli, some salads and pork or chicken or beef or seafood. Most overseas Vietnamese restaurants serve this dish 'cause it best suits anyone who is dieting.
