It's kind of hard to answer that question when we're not sure of your level or goals, so I'm just going to guess. From your post you seem around an intermediate to upper-intermediate level. It also seems like you want to read more literature than "pop" novels. Based on that, I'm suggesting some classic literature with some philosophical or political themes that are appropriate for what I think your level is: Animal Farm by George Orwell Lord of the Flies by William Golding Call of the Wild by Jack London The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway The Pearl by John Steinbeck The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Obasan by Joy Kagawa Some books that are written for teenagers, but have some philosophical ideas that are still enjoyable for adults are: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton Holes by Louis Sachar The Giver by Lois Lowry Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Not all of these books will be your style of novel, so I suggest the synopses (summaries on the back) before you buy them. Enjoy!!

Depending on your reading level: - Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder (all about philosophy and fairly straightforward). - The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom (very philosophical and an easy read - small). - Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts (much higher level and a big book, but beautiful).

Almost by definition, philosophical issues are at a high level...C1, at least. Paulo Coelho ( you can read in English translation) Gives you a lot to think about in any of his books. The Little Prince is simple language (originally in Frence: le petit Prince) but available in translation., and excellent. To Kill a Mockingbird/Harper Lee is lwritten about the American South, including racist issues, and is an excellent coming o f age story. Enjoy!
