There a causal way to say "the US" or “the States”? Hi there, Been studying Spanish for 60 days now and still a bit confused on this: So how do I say "I am from the States"? What I have been taught so far is either "norte america" or "los estados unidos"? Are they really the way we say "I am from the States"? Can I just say it literally "Soy de los estados". Thx in advance!

Hello, No, you may not say "Soy de los Estados". It doesn't sound right in Spanish. The most casual way to say you are from the US is to say "soy de los Estados Unidos". Never say "soy americano" as this is a sensitive issue in the rest of the continent, where we all consider ourselves "American". Hope this helps.

Not a native speaker, but since I live in Ecuador I found out that americano works perfectly well despite of all the dispute around what 'being Americano' actually means. Soy Americano, Soy de América, Soy de los Estados Unidos or soy gringo
