the odds not good “At other times he was suspicious—their opinions seemed so the complete opposite of the rest of the world’s that he wondered whether they might be condescending to him, or just crazy. Or maybe they had bad taste. How could four women’s judgment differ so profoundly from everyone else’s? Surely the odds of theirs being the correct opinion were not good.” [Sure the odds of theirs being the correct opinion were not good] the odds :how likely it is that something will or will not happen So basically the word means that: the odds were not good. But wait a second, my perception is tha more common is that: the odds were not high ANY IDEA?

You just replace "odd" with "likelihood", and you will get the idea . Odd = likelihood (of something happening) The odds were not good > The likelihood ( of something happening ) were not good/high Odds are high/bad > unlikely eg 10-1 chance. Odds are low/good > likely eg 2-1 chance
