I use Anki. It's an SRS flashcard program that's done wonders for me. Computer programs aside, I try to find words/phrases in English (my native language) that I can associate with the word I'm trying to memorize. For instance, in Japanese, "to divorce" is "りこんする" (rikonsuru). That sounds a little like the English word "reconsider." So, I think to myself, "Reconsider before you りこんする." Stuff like that.
