why does the author use the double quotation marks? Nothing thrills them more than a “big find.” Intellectual, introspective, and exceedingly detail-oriented, investigators are happiest when they’re using their brain power to pursue what they deem as a worthy outcome. ---- I wonder why this author put the double quotation marks around "big find". Please help me!!!

The author probably means that the expression "big find" has a special meaning. The author may wish to poke fun at the idea, in other words, satirize.
