What's the meaning? Hi. I found one sentence and I can't understand what it means. Can you help me, please? The sentence is "I have never been allowed to read or follow or click on or whatever those procedures are called".This sentence is from a book. "Up until forty-eight hours ago I had never tasted alcohol, kissed a boy, worn anything sleeveless or sung a song in public at the top of my lungs using suggestive and inappropriate lyrics. In a very few minutes I am going to have to leave this jail cell and try to explain everything to my parents, my eight brothers and sisters, the police, the mayor and all of those journalists that ### I have never been allowed to read or follow or click on or whatever those procedures are called###."

I understand this to mean that the person had never been allowed to access the internet. 'Whatever those procedures are called' refers back to 'follow' and 'click on'. She had heard the terms 'follow' and 'click on', but had never done these things. From the context of the extract, it looks like she had been imprisoned somewhere and hadn't had the opportunity to do any of the normal things that young girls do - like drinking, kissing boys, wearing revealing clothes and even using the internet.

I still can't understand it , it doesn't make sense to me ,I see no relevance to the above mentioned! If you have read this book or parts of it ,you might know better . There is a missing text !! The girl is certainly doing drugs among other things :) It is still not clear what the last sentence has to do with it !!

It could be that the person is unable to click the button of " follow " or any other of those many buttons, he just refer to as procedures ( he /she probably doesn't know the names or functions of all of them ) This person is also unable to read the content of the page . This is a possible interpretation of the sentence. Unless you mention more of the context ,it will be difficult to accurately answer your question .
