use of replace suppose a piece of land had been used for woods. then all the woods were removed and schools were built in the same area. is sentence 1 correct? 1. The woods were all replaced by two schools. I am having doubts about the use of "replace". Do sentence 2 and 3 mean the same thing as sentence 1 does? 2. A road extended over the piece of land which had been for woods in older (or old?) times. 3. A road extended over the piece of land for woods in older (or old?) times.
