look into eyes or look people in the eye? Is there any difference between these phrases? Is is a mistake if I say to look in the eye in singular? Thanks a lot.

You must focus both on the meaning of a context and its grammatical order. Look into whom 's eye. your sentence does not have objective pronoun. As Darren Poyton said: "Look into one's eye is correct."

It's not a mistake to say "look me in the eye" in singular. You could also say "look into my eyes" too. But "look me in the eyes" does not sound like something a native speaker would say.
